In Wales, and heading for Snowdon!

The next stage of our adventure took us into Wales, and also our longest day out yet.  We left Jeremy and Mary’s lovely small holding at a reasonable hour and had a pretty good, flat ride through to Cheddar Gorge where we stopped for lunch.  Our campsite for the night was at the top of a rather large hill above Chepstow.  We ended up riding into the night trying to find the place, and by the time we did we had covered 85 miles and over 2 bridges, the Avonmouth and the Old Severn Bridge.

Saturday saw us descend into the Wye Valley and into the heart of Wales.  The road was flattish with some awesome descents and a few rather long and painful ascents.  However, our efforts were well rewarded by a magnificent feast and beautiful campsite at the home of Rob and Sally Lewis in the hills above Crickhowell.  We enjoyed a lovely evening accompanied by their family and friends.  A huge thank you to the Lewis family for looking after us so well.

After a rather lazy Sunday morning, we were finally on our bikes by noon and had a rather spectacular cycle along the Monmouthsire canal to Brecon.  After enjoying the pleasant flat canalway we had a rather large uphill pull rewarded by another exhilarating descent only to get Carie’s “Go left” call a little too late, so after a wee detour we got to our campsite at Riverside Park, just outside Garth just as the darkness drew in.

Leaving Garth, we enjoyed further tremendous views of the Wye valley as we travelled towards Rhayader for lunch.  After lunch we were a little bit concerned about the hill Carie had forewarned us about but we shocked ourselves when we reached the summit with ease.  Downhill through the historic market town of Llanidloes we reached our campsite in good time so that we could update you all of our progress.  We have been overwhelmed by the support and kindness of the people we have encountered on route but would really appreciate all your support in reaching our target of £7000 - please please support us at justgiving.com/le-3peaks-jog.

We’re now 70 miles away from our Snowdon base camp at Swallow Falls, Betws-y-Coed where we look forward to seeing some of you this weekend.

Thank You - The Great British Adventurers x

TESTIMONIALS

“We have done so much this week, barbeques, water fights, football, and sailing! We’ve had loads of fun. I love boats, and it has been exciting to learn from such a great crew. I couldn’t pick the best thing about this week, although meeting Ellen was awesome! I would come back any day!”

“Samuel returned great, full of life, beans energy, enthusiastic, more confident and less worrying of new challenges in life. He enjoyed everything! He actually said it was too short and needed to stay a few more days.”
