How we use your money

The Ellen MacArthur Trust is a charity that gains all funds from donations and fundraising activities.

imageThe Trust is very careful that all monies raised or donated are not wasted. Staffing and administration costs are kept low and volunteers help out free of charge.  This means the majority of funds are used for our sailing operations, and we pride ourselves in having grown year on year to reflect our increased fundraising activities.  We organise a number of fundraising events ourselves, for example a ball during Skandia Cowes Week from 2006-2008 and several events in conjunction with our Ellen MacArthur Trust Skandia Round Britain voyage in 2009.  We also actively approach companies and individuals for donations and sponsorship of our dinghy weeks and yacht trips.

image All costs associated with our trips are covered by the Trust.

As the children come from all over the country travel costs vary so we base our summer four-day-trip costs on an average of £500 per child.  This includes (but is not exclusive to) travel, food, yacht hire, professional Skipper, waterproofs and lifejackets along with all additional activities such as rib rides, swimming and team building.
For our Bradwell Residential Dinghy Week we estimate it costs an average of £400 per child for the week, including but not exclusive to accommodation, food, all activities and all safety equipment.

By supporting the Trust and signing up to give a regular monthly amount or by making a donation, you can help us increase the number of young people we take sailing.  To give you an idea of what your donation can help with please see below.  Any amount, no matter how big or small, quickly adds up to help us continue doing what we do.

Annual Regular Giving
£5 per month will pay for a childs lifejacket and annual service
£10 per month will allow a young person to race for a day in the JPMorgan Asset Management Round the Island Race or Skandia Cowes Week
£25 per month means another young person can come along to our residential dinghy week
£41.70 per month will give a young person in recovery from cancer or leukaemia the opportunity to join our four day summer sailing trips

Single Gifts

£50 will provide a UV-resistant T-shirt and cap to protect the young person from the sun

TESTIMONIALS

“Dan returned very happy, positive, enthusiastic, talks about sailing all the time. Daniel is now keep to continue and improve his sailing skills. You are all doing a wonderful job and are giving back joy, confidence and happiness to children who have been through a very touch time. Daniel has expressed he would like to be a spokesperson for the Trust, maybe speaking to children in hospital about his experiences with the Trust, showing them that something good can come from the awful illness they have had, that what they have been through can make them a stronger person.” Mother of Dan, 16

TESTIMONIALS

“The week has been the best! I never I thought I would get the chance to do this, and I am glad my nurse told me about the trip. The best bit is being on the boat and just sailing around and even getting to steer! I’ve made loads of new friends, I’ll definitely stay in touch.”
