Volunteering

imageVolunteering on trips If you have a sailing or medical background then you may be able to help on our yachting trips as a volunteer.  You need to commit four days, Monday to Thursday usually in June/July/Aug to becoming one of three adult crew on board, looking after, living and sleeping on the boat with the five young people.  All volunteers are CRB checked before sailing with the Trust and need to attend our volunteer induction day usually on a Saturday in May or June at UKSA on the IOW.  The trips can be very hard work and you need to be physically fit and enthusiastic to get the most out of them, but they are extremely rewarding and a lot of fun.

imageLand based volunteering From time to time the Trust requires extra help on shore running its charity information stand during events such as Cowes Week or J.P. Morgan Round the Island Race, or being a marshal at events such as the Round the Island Race cycle challenge or West Wight Triathlon.  No experience is required generally, but a willing attitude, combined with an interest and belief in what the Trust does goes a long way.

Volunteer for Maintenance
The Trust now owns its first boat and with that comes the responsibility of keeping it maintained to a high standard throughout the year.  For the last couple of years a group of volunteers from Citibank have come down to the island on their CSR day to help clear out the boat ready for refit.  Annual maintenance days will be organised and if you can help in any way (a knowledge of boat maintenance would be an advantage but not essential), please contact us for dates and to be put on our maintenance register.

We no longer need volunteers to help on our 2010 yacht trips, but if you would like to register your interest in volunteering on the yachts in the future, or can help us with our land-based activities, please download this Volunteer Application Form, complete and post back to us, thanks.

TESTIMONIALS

“We’ve done so much this week that I never thought I would, sailing, barbeques and rib rides! The best bit has being able to meet new people who understand and being able to have some fun! We have all been through the same thing. I have made some great friends. I would definitely come back to The Trust”.

TESTIMONIALS

“The week has been the best! I never I thought I would get the chance to do this, and I am glad my nurse told me about the trip. The best bit is being on the boat and just sailing around and even getting to steer! I’ve made loads of new friends, I’ll definitely stay in touch.”
