Local cycling club raise money for the trust
Five of the fundraisers dropped in this summer to meet some of the young people who have benefited from the Trust’s sailing trips this summer
and learn a bit more about the charity’s work helping young people
recovering from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illnesses.
Martin Gorman, B&Q Investment Manager said: “We decided to
fundraise for the Ellen MacArthur Trust as it’s one of B&Q’s
recognised charities for 2006 and we felt as a team that it was a
really worthwhile cause. It’s been great to meet the young people the
Trust helps and experience first-hand how the money we’ve raised will
be put to good use.”
The eight strong cycling team was made up of Martin Gorman, Warren
Blane, Rob Chapman, Alan Hilder, Simon Martell, David Simpson, Stephen
Skinner and Patrick Warwick-Smith. In total they cycled 500 miles over
a period of three days on a tour of Brittany in the Wessex Heartbeat
Challenge.
Frank Fletcher, of the Ellen MacArthur Trust said: “We’re extremely
grateful to the team for the funds they’ve raised for the Trust.
Thanks to their efforts they’ve raised enough to send at least four
children on sailing trips next year which is fantastic.”
