The inaugural Ellen MacArthur Trust Ball at Skandia Cowes Week raises in excess of £50,000
Dan is himself in recovery from cancer and has enjoyed several trips with The Trust. In 2006 Dan has returned as a volunteer on the trips run by the charity, and is racing throughout Skandia Cowes Week. After the event Dan said “The night was all about raising awareness and I hope a lot more people really understand what The Trust’s about now. I want this Trust to go really far and for other kids to experience the stuff that I’ve experienced. Being out on the water is one of the best life experiences you can get, and if I can help towards that I’ll do whatever I can. The Trust has changed my life completely. £50,000 will take 50 kids sailing, it’s a massive achievement.”
Ellen MacArthur was thrilled at the turnout in support of her charity. "Last night was an incredible night for The Ellen MacArthur Trust. So much hard work has gone into this charity and it was fantastic to see all that work being so generously rewarded. I was amazed by everyone's unstinting generosity and I think the work The Trust does really touched everyone who was at the Ball last night. We never imagined we would raise so much and I would like to thank everyone who came to the event and helped us raise in excess of £50,000 so we can continue our work and help us take even more children suffering from cancer and leukaemia out on the water. A big thank you to Skandia for selecting the Ellen MacArthur Trust as the official charity, it has been a huge boost for the charity."
