Gordon Applebey - A true friend and inspirational supporter of the trust.
All at the Trust are saddened to hear that Gordon Applebey passed away
today (Thursday 21st February). Gordon has been a huge supporter and
friend of the Trust - letting us use his yacht, Scarlet Oyster since
2006 and putting his energy and enthusiasm behind all that we did. Over
100 young people recovering from Cancer and Leukaemia have sailed
onboard Scarlet, Gordon had joined us for many of these trips and his
personal battle against Cancer had given him a great empathy with all
the young people he sailed with. Gordon skippered Scarlet in
the 2006 and 2007 JP Morgan Round the
Island Race, with a crew of young people in recovery from cancer, most
of whom had only sailed once. He lead them to a more than respectable
238th place
overall in the infamous 2006 race and 248th overall in 2007.
Gordon's
enthusiasm for all that the Trust did was evident to all that met him,
be it cooking a breakfast of bacon sandwiches for all onboard, joining
in with the legendary water fights or hatching plans on how we could use
Scarlet more. One word sums up his support of the Trust - Awesome! He will be truly missed by all those at EMT who had the
honour of sailing with him. All our thoughts are with his family at this time.
