Dan's Blog: La Rochelle
The start was amazing loads of people came to see the race start for the round the world race, the crew all had jobs for the start and the skipper gave me the job of being the helmsman that ment that i was steering the boat and at the start of a race when rounding a mark the boats get really close and it was my job not to crash! lol it was a big responsibility and i really enjoyed it!. We started the race in second place then headed for the wrong mark, we managed to find the right mark and tacked the boat befor it was to late, we lost a place and was now in third as we headed out the Mersey. soon after we was hit with a storm for about six hours, we was fighting to keep our place as the competition got very close and very wet. Over night we climbed a place witch put us in second, we had big seas and good winds down to France then as we entered the Biscay the winds dropped and first place was to far ahead. Glasgow was catching us quickly, so we done every thing we could do to keep our position even thou we had no wind!. We kept our position and came second! it was a great race to start the round the world, and i loved every minute on Liverpool08 the crew was fantastic and i learnt alot from our skipper Ben Galloway.
Its sad to say good bye but joining Jamaica is going to be a great experience and I'm looking forward to sailing with them!.
I'm now getting the boats ready in La Rachelle for the Atlantic cross to Brazil witch leaves on Sunday the 23rd of September.
