Day Two : Ellen MacArthur Trust Residential Dinghy Week
‘Dinghies? What dinghies?!’ after a top day of impromptu fun. Seven of the kids, joined by Ellen, headed off to the Chelmer Canal for a day’s sedate canoeing. Or so they thought……… Five hours later, there were some very saturated bodies as boats capsized accidentally, boats were sunk intentionally and generally the mission was to get everyone as wet as humanly possible. Even Ellen’s dog Flossie got in on the act!
By the time the crews were being thrown over the rampaging weir in their vessels, no-one could get much more soaked or have laughed any harder.
While chaos were unfurling on the Chelmer, a flotilla of three boats, including two Ribs were taking to the sea to try to track down some of Essex’s finest crustaceans.
The kids got the chance to take their turn driving the RIBs, guaranteed to be a highlight of most people’s week let alone day. And their day got even better as a seal came to say hello as the group were casting out their crabbing lines.
The local airfield also played host to hours of EMT entertainment, Bradwell’s mountain bikes being put through their paces. With the crabbing and cycling groups swapping activities after lunch, no-one missed out what the others were up to. And with strong winds also forecast for tomorrow, they can expect to get themselves very wet with the canoes likely to get another outing. The day came to a close with a massive HAPPY BIRTHDAY to Ross who turned 18 today.
