Cathy Stephen is planning to run the Flora London Marathon for the Trust
Cathy Stephen is 25 years old and has been applying for the marathon through the ballot since she was 18. This year Cathy was delighted to find out she would finally be participating, and has decided to run for The Ellen MacArthur Trust.
“I started sailing at two years old when my dad used to sit me in his dinghy and win all the two-"man" races on the Thames. Since then I’ve sailed toppers, lasers, spent many hours cruising The Solent with my family, and have also done some challenges with the Ocean Youth Trust in a 72" boat when carrying out my Duke of Edinburgh Award. I know how much fun sailing can be and how it can help build young peoples confidence.”
Cathy has always been an active person, playing hockey regularly and enjoying outdoor sports like cycling and sailing. She wants to challenge herself further by participating in the London Marathon, pushing her commitment and perseverance to the limit to achieve a good running time whilst raising money for a really worthwhile charity.
Living in Earlsfield, Cathy has made a conscious effort to keep away from the pavements and pollution of London since her training began in November. “I have tried to keep all my training really varied. Most of my long runs have either been in the countryside of Hertfordshire where my boyfriend lives, in Richmond Park with the deer, along the river Thames, or out in the Hampshire countryside, where my family live. I think this variety has kept me inspired, since running for hours on end can get pretty boring if you don't make sure you are running across fields and making it more of an orienteering adventure!”
Cathy hopes to finish the marathon in the best time she can to raise the most money possible, and The Ellen MacArthur Trust wishes her all the best in her efforts! To sponsor Cathy for this challenging race and help The Ellen MacArthur Trust, please click here
