The Ellen MacArthur Trust raises just over £90,000 in its first year as the official Charity to Skandia Cowes Week

Skandia Cowes Week’s official charity The Ellen MacArthur Trust is delighted to have raised a total of just over £90,000 at the end of seven days of racing, events and aching feet.  This will go towards The Trusts work helping young people on their way to recovery from cancer and leukaemia regain their confidence, by introducing them to sailing at sea.

Cowes Primary Year 2 Students enter into the blue spirit

30 Students from Cowes Primary entered into the Turn Cowes Blue theme by designing a boat or costume to show support of the Ellen MacArthur trusts work with young people with Cancer and Leukaemia. The winning painting was by Alex Tappenden aged 7 from Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Runner up was Jessica Norton aged 7 also from Cowes on the Isle of Wight. Skandia Cowes Week Day 6 - Discretion is the better part of valour

With gusts of 25 knots and a unpleasent choppy solent caused by the northerly breeze - the crew onboard Scarlet Oyster have opted for a gentle cruise today rather than joining what promises to be a very windy day. New crew get off to flying start and Skandia Gala ball raises £31,000

The new crew onboard Scarlet Oyster got of to a flying start this morning on the first days racing for Judith, James and Gerard, unfourtunetly a rip in the furling headsail meant they had to retire. Meanwhile ashore the Skandia gala ball raised in excess of £31,000.

The inaugural Ellen MacArthur Trust Ball at Skandia Cowes Week raises in excess of £50,000

The Ellen MacArthur Trust, Skandia Cowes Week’s official charity, raised over £50,000 at its inaugural Ball last night (31st July).   The event, held at the Cowes Yacht Haven Events Centre was attended by 380 guests.  Patron and founder of The Ellen MacArthur Trust, Dame Ellen MacArthur was in attendance with special guest Dan Monk, 20, from Basildon.  (Photo Right  ©2006 Gleber Rodrigues)
